Abbona's Barolo Classico: Lucky Us
 
Aside from being one of the loveliest people in wine, Chiara Abbona is also a wonderful ambassador for her family's estate.

While known, I would say, slightly more for Barolo nowadays, historically, they were the original standard bearers for Dolcetto di Dogliani, which, many, many decades ago, was actually the more prominent wine in the region.

So much so, in fact, that their Barolo holdings were more or less their 'also mades' along with their Dogliani.

I can say unequivocally that that's no longer the case.

Yes, Chiara and her family still speak glowingly about, and tirelessly advocate for, their beautiful Dogliani wines, which they still consider the flagships of the estate, but it's hard to separate the Abbona name from their Barolo, which are way more than worthy of any and all praise that they receive.

Continuing the Barolo cascade from the wonderful 2019 vintage, today I'm just talking about their Barolo Classico 2019, a wine that continues to make my head spin in disbelief every time I drink it, in every vintage.

Still one of the most miraculous values in all of wine, Abbona's Barolo Classico is so good, so proper and so impressive that, well...it's almost an insult to call it a 'value'.

This glorious, deep, structured and delicious 2019 would be a fabulous Barolo at well north of $50/btl.

However, with their long history in the area, the Abbonas still manage to get it to us for way, way less than that.
