Another Fabulous Sancerre
Yes, this is another offer for Sancerre...
...like the second one in three months...which is highly unusual for this newsletter...
Yes, I'll (mostly) spare you all the Sancerre rant this time, but I will tell you that this one from Pascal & Nicolas Reverdy is not one of the ones I often rant about - you know, the ones that say 'Sancerre' on the label, but taste like...
...well...
...that taste...
...highly unpleasant...
It's quite the opposite, here - this is not only very proper Sancerre, but this is very proper Sancerre that also gets released late from the winery.
So this delightfully delicious 2020 Sancerre La Grand Rue has had the perfect amount of time in bottle, so it's currently firing on every cylinder.
Seriously.
Think of everything you love about good Sancerre - the subtly explosive aromatics, the ineffable elegance and restraint, the mineral core - and then add a broader, silkier texture and some wonderful honeyed/floral depth. It's not a boisterous wine (and of course it shouldn't be), but it's sophisticated and eloquent and just flat out enjoyable.
If you've ever wondered why people pay $300/btl for Vatan's Sancerre and then sit on it for a decade or more, this will give you an idea as to why.
No, I'm not saying that it's aged Vatan for $39/btl, but I am saying that it offers hints of that experience...
...but on a budget that most of us would be comfortable with...
