Barbaresco's Greatest Value?
My general rule is that, when I see a headline that ends with a question mark, I'm almost certainly being fooled into reading something that will actually either make some vague, non-corroborating case supporting the mushy theory in the headline, or do just the opposite.
Either way, I was fooled into reading something that was mostly a waste of time.
Clearly, in this clickbait world, it's a very effective tactic.
So I did it here just to get you to click?
No, actually.
Yes, grabbing your attention is good, but I put the question mark at the end of 'Barbaresco's Greatest Value', solely because, while someone undoubtedly disagrees with that statement (which is totally cool) it's 100% factual that, with each passing vintage, I believe even more and more that La Ca' Nova's DOCG Barbaresco is, indeed, Barbaresco's greatest value.
It almost certainly is in a vintage like 2021, which so wonderfully suits La Ca' Nova's bright, flowery, irrepressibly joyful style...
For $45/btl, it is, for me, such a platonic ideal for what we're supposed to love about Barbaresco - that being the highly aromatic, transparent, delineated, elegantly feminine expression of great Nebbiolo.
I think I basically just described it there...but the nervy, herbaceous tension in this 2021 is just fabulous.
It's already pretty dang enjoyable, but I think in 3-5, it's really gonna be in a great place...
...that said, if you're like me, and you like 'em old and wise, this beauty will easily live to see its 20th birthday.
Sub $50 bottles of fantastic, ageworthy Barbaresco from great vintages are disappearing with each passing year...
...but we still have a few...
...and this is the best one still going...
...and there's no question mark necessary there...
