My Favorite Chateauneuf from a Great Vintage

My inbox is still on fire following Wednesday's Champagne offer, but it's December, so on we roll.

Every December, Bois de Boursan's Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Tradition is one of the most popular wines on the shelf, and I more-than anticipate that to be the case this year...especially when a big stack of this stunning 2015 lands.

2015 is a great year for the region, and, as usual, the Versino family has put out a wine that accentuates the very best attributes of it, while maintaining the impossibly elegant and supple character that this wine is always known for.

It's a bit more powerful this year, a hallmark of the vintage, but we're still dealing with that brighter, redder expression of Chateauneuf, with a stony core and lovely herbs and spices lurking at the edges.

This is so good right now, especially for those of you who like the brighter, more fragrant expression, but it's really going to get nice in 5-10 when the size and texture of the fruit will shrink a bit, allowing the animale to come out - all that iron-y, bloody, feral character that will glide gracefully along the palate and transport you to a place of pure delight.

Really, there's not much else to say about this one that I haven't already said EVERY DECEMBER since 2010 in this newsletter.

This is, for me, the most honest, straightforward and humbly delicious Chateauneuf du Pape on the market.

Pound for pound, it's also my favorite...and it arrives on Monday...
