Pigato & Verdicchio: Because...Summer...
We're in the thick of the 'dog days' - the bane of every brick & mortar retailer's existence...obviously unless they brick n' mortar somewhere fabulous that people flock to in the Summer...
...anyway, the point is that many of you aren't paying close attention to your email right now, and that's okay...I wouldn't be either...and it just means that I have to get your attention quickly.
So here we go...
For me, fresh Italian white wines are always closest to my glass this time of year - especially the ones that grow near the sea. Nearly all fresh whites have an affinity with seafood, but the ones from coastal parts of Italy just really seem take things to another level.
So here are two nice ones that just arrived.
Summer = white wine.
Summer = seafood.
Italian Coastal Whites = Summer.
You're welcome...
BRUNORI Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi San Nicolò 2023 - the coastal expression of Verdicchio, Castelli di Jesi's brighter, brinier personality is always perfect with a Summer meal. Brunori's San Nicolò bottling is their Superiore, and shows all the lovely, mineral, textured feel you expect, with a nice dose of savory nuttiness in its focused, nuanced finish. A classic example of a classic Italian white.
TERRE BIANCHIE Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente 2023 - to many Americans, Summer + Italy + Seaside evokes the image of Liguria and the Cinque Terre. While this lovely white made of the native Pigato grape hails from slightly further inland, near Dolceaqua, it still retains that lively, fragrant, mineral, racy and herbaceous kick that makes it such a perfect wine with the fabulous Mediterranean fare that people enjoy in the Cinque. The nice lees-y texture only adds to the depth.
