Podere Le Boncie - Another of Tuscany’s Leading Ladies
My last newsletter was about one of the grande dames of Tuscany - Elisabetta Fagiuoli of Montenidoli.
Today, I’m going to continue that theme with the stunning wines of Giovanna Morganti of Podere Le Boncie in San Felice, just North of Castelnuovo Berardenga.
In the last 5-7 years, her wines have gone from Chianti Lover’s insider jewels to among the hottest Sangiovese-based wines on earth...
...and that was just her Le Trame, one of the most graceful, aromatic and, yes, feminine expressions of Chianti on the market (though it’s now labeled as Toscana IGT to allow her the flexibility she desires during production).
Today, I’m also really excited to offer her newest wine, another gorgeous 'Chianti-IGT' called Chiesamonti, which hails from a stonier, lower-clay-content 1.3ha parcel of Sangiovese and Canaiolo.
I used to think that the Le Trame had a monopoly on supreme, high-toned, flowery elegance...
...until I tried the Chiesamonti, which, thanks to the stonier soil, takes that notion to a whole new level of fragrant, focused energy.
There’s just something about the ladies of Tuscany (Giovanna, Elisabetta Fagiouli, Stella di Campalto, Principessa Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa of Castell’in Villa, etc.), and their innate sense of soaring grace and elegance that I (and so many others) can’t seem to get enough of.
These gorgeous wines from Le Boncie are probably a few vintages (at most) away from joining the ranks of the ‘impossible to get’ producers of Italy and I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being the last time I have enough to offer them in a newsletter.
And by ‘enough’, I, of course, mean ‘probably not enough’...
...even for this offer...
