MCF Rare Wine
This time of year, a Barbaresco isn't usually at the top of the list of what I'm looking for.
Not because I stop drinking Nebbiolo after Memorial Day or something nonsensical like that, but my tastes (and yours) do tend to change when the days begin getting longer.
So when I sampled this radiant 2015 Barbaresco from Ronchi di Giancarlo Rocca, I wasn't expecting to be so taken...
...but I was taken.
Radiant really is the word for this beautiful glass of Nebbiolo, even from a warm year like 2015.
It's bright, fragrant, juicy, energetic and very well balanced.
At $36, it's a hell of a value.
Given that Barolo continues to climb in price, it's easy to think that the same thing has happened for Barbaresco, but really, beyond a couple of the biggest names, the appellation continues to deliver fantastic wine at really fair prices...
...fantastic wine that you can enjoy right now (like really, I want to open a bottle right now and go sit in the sun on the front stoop of the shop), or 5-10 years from now (preferably also in the sun on the front stoop of the shop).
The bottom line, I guess, is that it's a beautifully sunny Spring day and I want to go sit on the stoop in front of the shop...and, instead of the rosé or fresh white I would normally choose in such a setting, I want a bottle of this fantastically drinkable Barbaresco from Ronchi.
