Down Island is bottling some of the most interesting rums we've had in a long time, many of which are totally unique compared to their colleagues in this ultra-niche game. This Brazil 2011 is very cool stuff - 80% cane juice, 20% molasses, from a column still that was aged in Brazil for 6 years in amburana (the notoriously spicy South American hardwood) casks, before being shipped to Europe and aged a further 6 years in American oak before being bottled in 2023. It's grassy and elegant, with lively fruit notes and just a touch of the molasses-y funk that leads to a wonderfully aromatic finish.
